What Is An Arteriogram?
An arteriogram, also called arteriography or angiogram, is an X-ray image of the inside of an artery using contrast material. The imaging is performed to detect the approximate location of an aneurysm or blockage.
How Is An Arteriogram Performed?
A thin tube, called a catheter, is inserted through an IV needle into an artery or vein and carefully positioned.
The contrast material is injected and X-rays are taken. If there is a blocked or damaged artery, treatment for the condition can be done at the same time as the arteriogram.
What Is An Atherectomy?
An atherectomy is a procedure used to treat atherosclerosis; a condition that leads to the narrowing and hardening of arteries. Atherectomy refers to a group of angioplasty procedures that remove plaque from the artery walls and is most effective for blockages that cannot be easily treated with stents. This procedure can be performed repeatedly to remove a significant amount of plaque.
