MIVC Helps To Build Clinic in Liberia
Press Release
July 29, 2018, Laurel, Maryland
THE MINIMALLY INVASIVE VASCULAR CENTER PARTNERS WITH JANJAY VILLAGE OF HOPE TO BUILD NEW CLINIC IN LIBERIA WEST AFRICA
Grand Bassa County has one of the highest child mortality rates of all fifteen counties in Liberia with 101 deaths per 1,000 live births compared to the national average of 78 deaths per 1,000 live births (2008 Census Report). Children younger than five have less chance of surviving with 160 deaths per 1,000 children. Grand Bassa is also one of the poorest counties in Liberia with 74% of households with unmet basic needs are headed by women. Not surprisingly, there is a strong correlation between poverty, health, and education as the county has the lowest literacy rate of all fifteen counties. Only 35.6%[i] of adults can read and write. Over 60% of women give birth outside of a health facility or walk on an average 3-4 hours to the nearest health facility. The clinic will give the most vulnerable group of society better access to healthcare, education and referral services. Some of this group include pregnant women, infants, children and girls who are physically and mentally confined.
The project goals include:
Monday – Thursday: 9am – 5pm
Friday: 9am – 1pm
Saturday – Sunday: Closed
