Vascular Devastation Affects 1 in 3 Women Vascular Devastation is  trademarked term coined, by Double Board Certified Vascular Surgeon, Dr. Jeffery Dormu, who is the Founder and Chief Vascular Surgeon at the Minimally Invasive Vascular Center. The term defines the terrible events that many people face as a result of factors that are due to the increased number of vascular surgeries being performed by Surgeons who are not Fellowship Trained in Vascular Surgery or who are not Board Certified in Vascular Surgery.  In addition, many patients are not diagnosed and treated for vascular disease in a timely manner.  Vascular Devastation is rampant in our community.  Increasingly more people are suffering from premature amputations, strokes, kidney dialysis, chronic pain and overall lack of mobility. Many patients complain of symptoms such as leg pain, leg swelling, poor healing wounds and leg cramps for years and many Physicians neglect to recognize the onset of Vascular Disease.

Women are especially vunerable.  90% of women who experience chronic pain feel the healthcare system discriminates against them.  Many healthcare standards do not count Vascular Disease as one of the many top health concerns for women.  There is, in fact, a long history of gender bias in the healthcare industry.  It is well documented that women patients are often told that many of their symptoms are in their head.

Cardiovascular diseases and stroke cause 1 in 3 women’s deaths each year, killing approximately one woman every 80 seconds. An estimated 44 million women in the U.S. are affected by cardiovascular diseases. 90% of women have one or more risk factors for heart disease or stroke.

Risk Factors Include High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Smoking, Diabetes, Over the Age of 50, Family History and Being Overweight

At the Minimally Invasive Vascular Center, we offer a customized approach to evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of vascular disease for both men and women.
